How to Replace timing chains on Chrysler Voyager 3.3 2000-

Special tools

  • Crankshaft pulley puller 1 – No.1026.
  • Crankshaft pulley puller 2 – No.8450.
  • Crankshaft sprocket puller – No.5048-1/5048-6/8450/8539.

General precautions

  • Disconnect battery earth lead.
  • Remove spark plugs to ease turning engine.
  • Turn engine in normal direction of rotation (unless otherwise stated).
  • Observe tightening torques.
  • If fitted: Mark position of crankshaft position (CKP) sensor before removal.
  • Do NOT turn crankshaft via camshaft or other sprockets.
  • Do NOT turn crankshaft or camshaft with timing chain removed.

Valve timing procedures


  • Removal/installation of timing chain requires:
      • Sump removal.
  • Turn crankshaft until camshaft timing mark at 6 o’clock position [1] .
  • Ensure timing marks facing each other on centre line between crankshaft and camshaft [1] [2] .
  • During removal/installation of timing chain:
  • Align dark coloured chain links with marks on sprockets [3] .
  • To check chain movement:
      • Prevent crankshaft rotation.
      • Apply torque to camshaft sprocket in clockwise direction – 41 Nm (cylinder heads installed), or 20 Nm (cylinder heads removed).
      • Hold ruler along edge of chain.
      • Apply torque to camshaft sprocket in anti-clockwise direction – 41 Nm (cylinder heads installed), or 20 Nm (cylinder heads removed).
      • Renew chain if link movement exceeds 3,2 mm.
  • To ensure correct oil pump engagement during timing chain cover installation, remove crankshaft oil seal.
  • Tighten crankshaft pulley bolt to 54 Nm [4] .
